there and my mom is French. I plan on going back to Verdun sometime next yr. Its been so
long since I was there last. I miss the city and people alike. I have never knew of the High
School. I also lived in Kaiserslautern. Thank u for sharing this site and all. It is a great site
and hope u find everyone.

Subject: Roger Henson
Dear Webmaster:
First of all, I am Charles G. Clary of Des Allemands, Louisiana. I have been a pastor for 43
years, including 13 years at West Monroe, LA. While at West Monroe I had a parishioner
named Jerry Robert, a Viet Nam veteran, who told me the story of his friend, Roger Henson.
I notice that Roger is a VAHS graduate.
Jerry related how Roger was killed in a fiery helicopter crash. Jerry was on the schedule
board to go, but Roger took his place in order that Jerry could get some much-needed rest.
The helicopter had no sooner lifted off that it was shot down. This story moved me so deeply
that I wrote it and several news papers carried it. I was excited to have located your website
and to learn that Roger went to high school in France.
The data you give on Roger lists the location of his name on the Viet Nam Memorial in
Washington, D.C. It is identical to the location which Jerry Robert had given me.
His brother-in-law visited the Memorial and brought back the location. So I am positive
that it is your Roger Henson. I still have the story I wrote and I would be happy to
send it to you. Again, Jerry did not want Roger's parents contacted. I will honor this and
I would appreciate it if you would also. I will contact Jerry Robert with the news
of your website.
I would really like for your classmates and friends to know how one of their own,
Roger Henson, was cut down in the bloom of his life.
Thanks!

The newspaper article referred to has been added to the Memorial Section with the
appropriate approvals and thanks to Pastor Charles G. Clary.

Subject: Looking for a couple of people.

My name is Jim Dale.  My brother, Buddy (Wayne) and sister, Lanie, and I
were students at VAHS in 1964-1965 school year.  I was a senior and they
were freshmen. Or is it now politically correct to call them
freshpeople?
Anyway, I had two terrific friends while I was there.  I lived in the
dorm and really enjoyed it.  I'm looking for Charlie (Charles) Newman
and Barbara Brundage.  I would appreciate a note or a call at (910)
891-5338 if you have any information on them.

Thanks.

Jim Dale

Hi! I just spent an hour browsing through the VAHS site. What a kick! Are we really that old?
I'm Suzan Carter (Dentry). My address is 2302 Dogie Spur, Golden, CO 80403.
Phone: 303-279-8776. I'd love to be added to the email and home address lists.
My husband Ed and I have lived here for about 14 years. Ed's the Outdoor Editor for the
Rocky Mountain News...they make him hunt and fish!  I sell antiques. I sell at antiques shows and
have a website.  (See VAHS Links - Verdun Alumni On The Web:)

We have two grown children, Justin and Lygia. We also have two perfect grandchildren,
Shannon and Sophie.  You have done a wonderful job with the site. Many names brought back
memories.  I wish I could attend the reunion, but I will be at an antiques show in Houston that
week.  I'd especially love to hear from any of my Girl Scout buddies.

Thanks for your hard work. I'll be checking in from time to time.

Suzan

Hey Bill,
My brother is Bob Harris. My name is Candy Harris, now Bond. I was hoping some older sisters
and brothers of kids who stayed at home in Phalsbourg could help me find some of MY
classmates.  We were quite a bunch. I remember Karen Borah and I tried to go to Verdun for our
freshman year. We thought you guys were so cool. They wouldn't let us, of course.  I remember
Sharon, Karen Borah, Rennie and Bob Grossman, and Joe Ross. There were about 17 of us in
that class. Please contact me at candy@kidot.net.

Thanks,

Candy

This is Doo Grable now known more sedately as Emalou Grable Rimel.  My
I attended Verdun the first year as a junior
(1958-1959).  Great time.  So saddened about death of Mr. Davis.  He was
an exceptional teacher that I have carried with me for lo these many
years.  Has anyone information about Dick Ashton?  He was a junior the
same year I was and a great person to know.  His mother, Mary Ashton, was
also very special to me and I would love to be able to locate her.  Don &
I have been married for almost 40 years, 3 children and 5
grandchildren....and it was only a few years ago that I was 16!!  You all
have done a fantastic job with this site.  Thank you for all of the
work...it shows.

Hi Bill:
Several of us that was stationed in Verdun in 1953-4 had our first reunion this fall in Ohio.
This was a reunion of the people that bunked in, or near, room 55 of a building at Maginot Casene.
I know that the time period may be different but we are also looking for lost members.
I  don't remember a high school at Maginot Caserne but I do remember pulling bus guard for
dependent kids, of all ages including high school, going to school some where near by.
Do you know if there is a way to locate someone that you only have the last name and maybe the
serial number?  I lived on base and had no dependents.
      Anything will be appreicated
